The Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship is a 10-month non-degree program offered to mid-career professionals who have a proven track record of leadership, a public service commitment, and the capacity to take full advantage of a self-defined program of independent study at one of the leading U.S. universities. Awards will be made through an open competition based on individual merit. Grantees must return to the Philippines immediately upon completion of their program in the US. The competition for the Fulbright-Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) program for 2014-2015 is now open. This program is a U.S. Department of State exchange program administered by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) in the Philippines. The Fulbright-FLTA program is open to young teachers of English based outside of Metro Manila who have a sincere interest in teaching their native language and culture to American students. Interested applicants should have leadership skills, the ability to motivate students, and the capacity to relate to foreign students. Application period for the 2014-2015 Fulbright-FLTA competition is from January 7 to June 7, 2013. |

The Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF) is pleased to announce the start of the 2014-2015 Fulbright-Philippine Agriculture Scholarship Program (FPASP) competition for advanced research awards in the United States. The goal of the FPASP is to modernize the agriculture and fisheries sectors of the Philippines by developing their human resources base through bilateral educational exchanges between the Philippines and the United States. Ambassador Harry K. Thomas, Jr. hosted the Fulbright reception honoring the thirty-three (33) 2013-2014 batch of Fulbright, Hubert H. Humphrey, and Global Undergraduate exchange scholars last May 16, 2013 at the US Embassy’s Charles Parsons Ballroom. The 2012-2013 US Fulbrighters who are still in the country completing their research were also recognized. Along with dignitaries from the embassy, Fulbright alumni and guests from the academe, government and business extended their congratulations and best wishes to this batch of scholars heading to the United States. The Fulbright reception was part of the two-day Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) for the Filipino scholars bound for the US this coming calendar year 2013-2014 that was held at the Philippine-American Educational Foundation office located in Makati City from May 16-17, 2013. The two-day PDO included sessions about adjusting to academic and social life in the US, what to pack and not to pack, final requirements, and a thorough discussion of the benefits, terms and conditions of their awards. Alumni of the various programs that PAEF administered shared their insights about making the most of their US experience as scholars. The scholars were chosen through an intense screening process under the auspices of the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), also known as the Fulbright Commission in the Philippines. PAEF is the longest continuously operating Fulbright Commission in the world, established in 1948, and has one of the ten largest Fulbright programs in the world. The primary mission is to promote educational exchange through scholarship and research, in order to foster mutual understanding and strengthen the relationship between the peoples of the US and the Philippines. |

March 23, 2013 marks the 65th anniversary of the Fulbright program in the Philippines. It is the longest continuously operating Fulbright program in the world, and has given close to 2,000 awards to Filipinos and over 800 awards to Americans. The Fulbright program in the Philippines is administered by the Philippine-American Educational Foundation (PAEF), a bi-national commission which carries out the cultural and educational exchanges between the Philippines and the United States. |

Kakistocracy Book of Humphrey Fellow Ronnie Amorado Wins International Awards
Dr. Ronnie V. Amorado, was a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow (2009-2010) at the Maxwell School of Citizenship of the Syracuse University, NY. His latest book, Kakistocracy: The Rule of the Unprincipled, the Unethical and the Unqualified (2011) was awarded the 2013 World Distinguished Book Author, the 2013 Outstanding World Researcher, and the 2013 Outstanding World Research Advocate. |
Fulbright scholar Toym Imao at the “Grounded” Exhibition at the Lopez Museum
Toym Imao is a guest artist at the Grounded Exhibition, with its opening reception held last February 21, 2013, Thursday at 5:30pm. Toym has four stirring and inspiring art works that are a must-see when visiting Grounded. These include P/flight; Drawn, Drone, Drown; Ship, Shift, Strip; and Diyos, Choose, Dues. The exhibit curated by Claro Ramirez, is themed on the metaphors of movement and currents and the idea of “grounding” these concepts in various visual narratives and will run until August 3, 2013. It focuses on waterscapes and features artworks from the museum’s permanent collection, along new works by invited artists Ahmed El Shaer, Khaled Hafez, Barbara Hlali, Toym Imao, Josephine Turalba, Goldie Poblador, Alma Quinto and Eric Zamuco. The proud father of Toym Imao National Artist (and also a Fulbright alumnus) Abdul Mari Imao and Fulbright officers graced the opening reception of Grounded. |
