BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
Kristiana Michaela P. Embate, also fondly called by her family and friends as Mika, was born to Jose B. Embate and Rita P. Embate on February 4, 1993 in Naga City. She is the eldest among four children. She is currently residing at San Vicente, Pili, Camarines Sur, Philippines.
She completed secondary school and graduated Valedictorian from St. Louise de Marillac School of Pili in 2010. She earned her degrees in Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English in 2014 from the Ateneo de Naga University, where she also graduated magna cum laude and achievement awardee.
In 2014, she taught full-time at the Ateneo de Naga University College of Education and Literature and Language Studies Department. In 2015, she entered government service as a full-time English teacher at San Jose Pili National High School. Recently, on May 2020, she completed her Master’s degree in English Language Teaching from the Ateneo de Naga University, and on October 2019, she was selected as scholar to the Fulbright-Foreign Language Teaching Assistantship Program 2020-2021 in the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, United States of America.
Her research interests are gender power relations, visual literacy, and critical media literacy. She is also interested in travelling local and international places. When not writing papers, she is doing crafts and painting which are her hobbies. In fact, when the quarantine period began, she opened her online gallery to feature and sell some of her paintings and commissions. Recently, she also started co-managing a tutorial center and an investing consultant-website.
