I. Biography
A Food Technology student at the University of the Philippines Mindanao, Virgilio Roi Adaptar, or VR as he is fondly called, is currently pursuing his undergraduate research on probiotic delivery systems utilizing agricultural wastes. Born on the 3rd of March 1999 in Davao City, VR’s eagerness to learn and lead has driven him to maximize his skills and capabilities beyond individual satisfaction.
He spearheaded the establishment of the UP Mindanao League of Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Scholars, a student organization with a mission of bringing science closer to the people, and served as its founding president on its inaugural year. His capacity to lead was further recognized by his fellow DOST Scholars in the Davao Region and was elected as the Vice President for External Affairs of the DOST XI Regional Scholars’ Association.
Aside from his passion for science and technology, VR has embraced the systematic art of discourse–debating. He is a resident member of the UP Mindanao Debate Society and has represented the University in various Asian Parliamentary Debate and British Parliamentary Debate tournaments across the country as an adjudicator.
Through his enthusiasm on research and innovation, his love for discourse, and his advocacy on youth empowerment, VR aspires to amplify the call of highlighting the importance of sound scientific information in addressing global issues and in encouraging young people to initiate change and take up space in society.
